Want a mood and energy boost? How about a stress reducer?
I came up with this delicious concoction today and thought I should share it:
1 small Papaya
4 tbsps of dried Goji berries
1 tbsp of Maca powder
2-3oz of unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
1 hand full of Ice Cubes
Here’s why this smoothie recipe is good for you:
Both the maca root and the goji berry are powerful adaptogens, which means that they have the “ability to balance and stabilize the body’s glandular-hormonal system, nervous system, cardiovascular system and musculature (Wolfe 2009:70) Adaptogens therefore counter “adverse physical, chemical, or biological sources of stress” allowing you to adapt to stressful circumstances (Wolfe 2009:70).
Maca Root is an adaptogenic superfood that “increases energy, endurance, oxygen in the blood, physical strength, neurotransmitter production, and libido. It supports the endocrine system, the adrenals, and the thyroid, typically improves one’s mood, and helps support healthy hormone production. (Wolfe 2009:70)”
Goji Berries “boost immune function, increase alkalinity and vitality, provide liver protection, improve eyesight and blood quality, deliver anti-aging compounds” and improve sexual function (Wolfe 2009:19).”
